    Speaking:
    Discussing what gives you your identity.
    Discussing people's self-image.
    Grammar:
    Review of basic verb structures.
    Auxiliary verbs.
    Listening:
    People describing what gives them their identity.
    Four men talking about their self-images
    Writing:
    Writing an e-mail and an informal letter about yourself.
  2. News. Images of the twentieth century.
    Speaking:
    Talking about famous events in the twentieth century.
    Exchanging personal news. Showing interest & empathizing.
    Grammar:
    Passive voice.
    Question tags & short answers.
    Indirect questions.
    Listening:
    People talking about memorable images of the twentieth century.
    Radio news broadcasts.
    Writing:
    Writing a magazine/newspaper article
  3. Time: Time management. Work.
    Speaking:
    Talking about rules and regulations.
    Talking about work places.
    Grammar:
    Modals.
    Listening:
    Radio discussion on attitudes to time.
    People talking about their work place.
    Writing:
    Writing a business letter.
    Writing a letter of application.
  4. Cyberspace. Digital. Communication.
    Speaking:
    Talking about gadgets. Making predictions about the future. Discussing the state of the world at the end of the 21st century. Giving a presentation.
    Grammar:
    Conditionals.
    Listening:
    People talking about why they use e-mail & the Internet.
    Writing:
    Writing a report based on statistics.
    Reading:
    Article: a newspaper interview with Stephen Hawking.
  5. Going global
    Listening & Speaking:
    Talking about the effects of globalizations. Discussing English in a changing world
    Grammar:
    Introducing points in an argument.
    Task:
    Devise an action plan to master your English (reading, writing, extended speaking).
  6. Conscience. Crime & Punishment.
    Speaking:
    Discussing what makes you feel guilty. Discussing crimes & appropriate punishments.
    Grammar:
    Paraphrasing. Word linking
    Listening:
    People discussing ways of raising money for charity. People stating what punishment they think are suitable for certain crimes.
    Writing:
    Writing a letter of complain/ of apology. Task: decide what to say in a difficult situation.
